BLT’s are one of my favorites. Main reason is that I love bacon! I tried the Fried Green Tomatoes BLTs which were fabulous. So when I ran across the “BLP”, I knew I had to try it. This recipe calls for pickled pear, aioli, and radicchio. All of these ingredients are new experiences for me, the aspiring foodie.
I made the aioli from scratch. The pickled pear was the most exciting new experience. The recipe calls for Asian pears, ginger, red pepper flakes, and rice wine vinegar. I let my pears pickle for about 30 minutes. I love the red pepper flakes because I like a little kick! What would I do different? I would dial down the ginger. I also used white wine vinegar because I was out of rice wine vinegar. I didn’t have any radicchio.
My BLP had bacon, aioli, pickled pear, muenster cheese, and lettuce with pumpernickel. I enjoyed the new twist. Next time, I might use cheddar cheese or no cheese at all. I will spice up my aioli a little and lessen the amount of ginger in the pickled pears. Impress your guests with this fancy gourmet sandwich. It will bring the wow factor to your table, and you guests will wonder how you were so creative.
