Happy New Year! I am a novice food blogger, novice foodie, and novice cook. I cook a lot of recipes I find challenging so that I learn new skills and new flavors. Many of the recipes I try seem complicated. Many of the ingredients don’t seem as if they blend together well. Some ingredients are completely new to me. I love it! I love a challenge. My culinary challenges are satisfying because I see immediate results, good or bad. I would like one day for every recipe I post to be my own creation. I will get there.
This year I will keep making challenging recipes. I will keep creating my own recipes and honing them. I will remember to make notes when creating and when cooking. I also plan on taking some cooking and wine classes. Surprisingly, my college education from undergraduate through graduate school studying International Relations, Middle East Studies, and Criminal Justice does not help much when making a béchamel. However, I would like to incorporate more of my experiences traveling abroad in Morocco and France into my food.
Here are a few of my goals for the New Year. How will I reach these goals? One day at a time! My plan is to do one thing to move forward every day. Even if I only have time to read one recipe, that is a step. Wish me luck!
Here is a small preview of a couple of dishes in the works:
The first dish is a ham and egg on toast. I have been trying different versions. I am using Iberico ham. I am experimenting with a sauce. I am also experimenting with how I want the egg cooked. So far, I like where the dish is headed.
The second dish is the Macaron. I have an original idea on a Macaron, but first I have to accomplish the basic Macaron. Right now, I am not getting the following results.
